WikiAssam:Mel
From WikiAssam
A few Issues:
- How do we develop a stronger and bigger community with higher participation?
- Require ideas to name places. How do we disambiguate, e.g. Dibrugarh town and Dibrugarh district? Amguri, Sibsagar and Amguri, Nagaon? Any other kinds of ambiguities we have to worry about?
- Need people to contribute regularly on current events. Who could be interested in current events?

Name Change
We are contemplating a change in the name for this page. This page is where we have (pretending for now) most of our discussions. A village pump. The word ghoomti (a small shop selling tea and betelnut where locals hang around, chat and play carrom) does not seem to be very common everywhere in Assam. The other choices are: mel, raiz-mel, sah-mel.
Please submit your choice. It should be informal sounding, and hopefully indigenous to the people of Northeast India.

Who's Who Pages
Page format
I propose that we follow a uniform format in these articles.
- The page name should be the standard name of the person, in firstname middlename lastname format.
- The first line whould be something like
- Followed by a paragraph of his major contributions.
- Biographical details in a separate Biography section
- Works, if available, in a separate Works section
- Other sections as necessary.
An example is Nibaran Bora. External example: Albert Einstein
Categories
We also have to think of a category hierarchy system. I suggest something like
- People
- Political Personalities
- Scholars/Academics
- Writers
- Novelists
- Poets
- Others
- Performing Artists
- Cinema
- Theater
- Folk
- Singers
- Instrumentalists
What else? Individuals can belong to multiple categories, of course. Please add to the hierarchy above.
