  • NDFB announces a six-month unilateral ceasefire from October 16 (AT).

  • The ongoing Operation Rhino II intensified against NDFB and ULFA with the addition of a brigade of 3000 troops to the existing three divisions of the 4 Corps in Assam (TC).
  • Heavy rainfall causes landslides and flash floods killing 6 in Guwahati city. (AT1, AT2)

October 5, 2004

  • A 12-hour shutdown (bandh) called by NESO and many other organizations in NE states demanding removal of the AFSPA affected normal life in the entire region (Hin). The other issues in the 4-point charter of demands are solution to the foreigners' influx and refugess; 100% reservation in C and D category jobs; and declaration of flood and erosion in the region as national problems (AT).
  • Suspected NDFB militants indiscriminately fired at and killed 10, mostly immigrant muslims, in Jalabill village, Dhubri. Killings enter fourth day. (RD).
