Hamdoi or Tekelagaon, Jorhat District, Purana Titabor

Hamdoi Gaon is three and a half kilometers from Titabor town on the Alengi - Titabor road. The village straddles a small stream called Kasojan which rises in the Naga Hills and ends by joining the Kakodonga near Melamati. The ancient name of the village was Tekelagaon - the presence of a few families who were minor officials in the Ahom bureucracy. The villagers now call themselves Hamdoi after a very fertile paddy field which adjoins the village.

Hamdoi Pothar ( paddy field) is about 200 years old and is known for its fertility and the flavour of the rice that is grown.

The village is affluent and has sent its sons and daughters to the furthest corners of the earth. The village has one primary school, a namghar and one shop.
